Food'n'Chef is an international magazine about the people behind the plate. We photograph chefs in their own kitchens, record their stories in their own words and publish the recipes they share with us.
The project began in 2012 with photographer Oleksandr Slyadnyev and a simple question: who cooks your favourite dishes? Restaurant guides review plates and rooms; the cook usually stays behind the kitchen door. Since then we have photographed more than a hundred chefs in Ukraine, Hong Kong, Armenia, Moldova, Spain, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, France and the United States.
Portraits and stories. Each chef tells their own story: where they grew up, who taught them, what they cook and why. We edit for clarity and keep the voice.
Recipes. The chef's own version, as the restaurant cooks it, and where we have adapted it, a home version with ordinary equipment and ingredients from a supermarket. Every recipe scales for the number of people you cook for and switches between metric and US measures.
Places. The restaurant where we met each chef. Restaurants change: when one has closed or moved, we say so on the chef's page.
